2018: Start Replacing Windows

2018 was a transitional year in the renovation process. The Bauordnungsamt had approved the construction plans, but by then, it had become clear to me that, mainly due to fire safety regulations, the renovation would be much more complex and expensive than I had initially thought. I also had no idea how to proceed with construction supervision. I wanted to take some time to decide whether I even wanted to continue with the entire project. However, I did commission the required assessments for Denkmalschutz and started requesting quotes.

As a result, not much renovation work was done in 2018. However, I did start making and replacing the windows in the Schloss. In total, the Schloss has 42 large windows on the ground and first floors, 17 smaller ones on the second floor, 3 slanted windows in the tower, plus a front door and two back doors. Buying and having all of them replaced would have been completely unaffordable.

So, I simply decided to make a window myself to see how it would go. It turned out to be quite manageable, and the window was approved by Denkmalschutz.

After that (and in the following years), I started making sets of four windows in the Netherlands, then transporting them to Gröbitz to install them.
