In the second year, we tackled the hallway and the dining hall. The dining hall was perhaps the worst room in the building. It had been divided into three sections with walls, and there were five toilets for the daycare. As usual, we started by stripping the space and removing the walls. We reopened some bricked-up doors and closed off others.
A large sewer pipe was laid across the dining hall to provide drainage for the future wellness area and the bathroom for the guest room. The hallway itself was in relatively good condition, with a kind of terrazzo tile flooring. However, the space was marred by numerous water pipes and electrical conduits running across the vaulted ceiling. The hallway was also divided into two sections by a wall, which we removed. We then built a new wall to separate the area from the cloakroom.
